Piko-Taro’s “PPAP” the first time since 1990 a Japanese artist debuted on Billboard’s Hot 100


The last time a Japanese music artist debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 was in 1990 with Matsuda Seiko and New Kids on the Block member, Donnie Wahlberg’s “The Right Combination”.

According to Billboard, “As Piko-Taro debuts on the Hot 100 (dated Oct. 29) at No. 77 with his novelty viral hit “PPAP (Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen),” the track makes history as the shortest song — a mere 45 seconds in length — ever to reach the chart.”


Nogizaka46 member Hashimoto Nanami to retire from the entertainment industry


Hashimoto Nanami (23) was one of the more recognized members of Nogizaka46.  And Hashimoto has declared her intention to not just graduate from Nogizaka46 but to end activities in the entertainment industry.

Hashimoto said that she would like to study English, to study for a career and also to fall in love and get married.

Nanami’s final graduation date will be on February 20, 2017.  And on November 9th, Hashimoto Nanami will be the center for the Nogizaka46 single “Sayonara no Imi”.

Michi of Boom Boom Satellites has passed away

Tanabe Miku wins 7th Annual AKB48 Janken Senbatsu


The 7yh annual AKB48 Janken Taikai is now over.

As with previous Janken Taikai yearly competitions, the winner will become the center for the AKB48 single released at the end of the year and the top 16 qualifiers will be featured for the single and music video.

And in the final two, AKB48 Team B’s Tanabe Miku (Tanamin) took on AKB48 Team K member Yumoto Ami.  And as Yumoto threw scissors, Tanabe threw rock and won the competition.  Leaving the third generation AKB48 member in tears including friends Watanabe Mayu and Kashiwagi Yuki.

Haruka “Paruru” Shimazaki to graduate from AKB48


Haruka “Paruru” Shimazaki (22) appeared at an event for “Baitoru NEXT” in Akihabara.

She announced that she will be graduating from AKB48 at the end of the year.

Shimazaki has done well as an actress and said that she also has dreams of becoming a Studio Ghibli voice actress.

Her final handshake meeting will be on December 24th at Makuhari Messe in Chiba and her final performance at the AKB48 Theater in Akihabara will be on December 26th.

Paruru joined AKB48 in 2009 and became the center after winning the “the third Janken senbatsu tournament”.

For AKB48’s 46th single to be released on November 16th, she will be the center.
