Piko-Taro’s “PPAP” the first time since 1990 a Japanese artist debuted on Billboard’s Hot 100

The last time a Japanese music artist debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 was in 1990 with Matsuda Seiko and New Kids on the Block member, Donnie Wahlberg’s “The Right Combination”.

According to Billboard, “As Piko-Taro debuts on the Hot 100 (dated Oct. 29) at No. 77 with his novelty viral hit “PPAP (Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen),” the track makes history as the shortest song — a mere 45 seconds in length — ever to reach the chart.”
