If you have never been to Tokyo, a trip to Shibuya will be an experience.

One of the few trains where you will feel like your packed in like a sardine, it’s still an amazing area to visit.

It’s important to note that when you refer to Shibuya, it’s a special ward in Tokyo. In Tokyo, there are 23 municipalities that make up the most populous areas in Tokyo in what was originally called Tokyo City (which lasted from May 1889-July 1943).  Each ward uses the “city” for their designation, but technically they are wards (tokubetsu ku).

Known for its restaurants and shopping, this city is alive during the day and night and going there around 9:00 a.m., to noon and then at 5:00 p.m. and again at 8:00 p.m., it’s always an interesting photo and video experience for travelers!

I’ll go more into other areas of Shibuya on future photo of the day’s!

Sure, many music stores have went out of business in America and even Tower Records stores that once flourished across the United States are no more.  But in Japan, Tower Records still remains as one of the major music establishments.  But also one that manages to keep itself relevant to consumers, despite the different digital offerings online.

Tower Records Shibuya is still a major destination for any music fan to visit while in Tokyo and Tower Records Shibuya is still a place one should visit.  May it be a concert, to eat at the cafe but most of all, to find cool music!

Photo of the Day: Jingu Stadium

If you want to catch a baseball game in Tokyo, your choice is either the Yomiuri Giants in Tokyo Dome or the Tokyo Yakult Swallows at Jingu Stadium.

An outdoor stadium created back in 1926 and the oldest stadium in Tokyo, unfortunately the stadium is being planned for demolishing for the 2020 Olympics.

Jingu Stadium is host for many university and high school games and during a Tokyo Yakult Swallows game, bring your Swallows umbrella and open it up during a time when the team makes a homerun, during the seventh inning or sometimes during a great play and the song “Tokyo Ondo” is playing in background.

Here is a video I shot during a pre-season game at the stadium:

PHOTO OF THE DAY: Tokyo Sky Tree – Inside looking out…

In May 2012, Tokyo Sky Tree was opened to the public and months later, Guinness World Records certified Tokyo Skytree as the tallest free-standing tower.

Millions of people have visited Tokyo Sky Tree and it is no doubt a location that everyone should experience in their lifetime.

The gorgeous view outdoors is my favorite as the location and the opportunities of great shots are wonderful for photographers.

But also, there are many shops and restaurants for people to try.

For adults, tickets are about Y2,060 for a day ticket to Tokyo Skytree Tembo Deck (350m) and an additional Y1,030, you can purchase tickets to the Tokyo Sky Tree Tembo Galleria (450m).

Check this place out!!!

Photo of the Day: Tokyo One Piece Tower

Are you planning to make the trip to Tokyo Tower anytime soon?  Then you will want to check out Tokyo One Piece Tower, an amusement center for fans of the series and children.

You will see many employees dressed up as pirates, you can partake in many games and even a One Piece tour and see cool artwork and even buy One Piece swag. There are “One Piece” human-sized statues, so you can take photos with yourself next to a character.

But you will definitely want to go on a weekday, not the weekend to avoid any long lines.

Photo of the Day: Donguritaishi

In Japan, you will find Donguritaishi (Acorn Republic) stores that specialize in selling Studio Ghibli related merchandise.

Looking for Ghibli swag from “Tonari no Totoro” (My Neighbor Totoro), Majo no Takkyūbin (Kiki’s Delivery Service), Omoide no Marnie (When Marnie Was There) and more, definitely give Donguritaishi a try as you can find many plush of characters, some small, some very big.

But there are also cool things to find in the area including those relate to gardening and more!

Definitely stores that Ghibli fans will want to check out!

Photo of the Day: Tokyo Dome

Located in the special ward of Tokyo known as Bunkyo, Tokyo Dome is a well-known 55,000-seat baseball stadium which opened in 1988.

While known for hosting many concerts and many sports games, Tokyo Dome is home to the Yomiuri Giants baseball team and right next to it is a huge entertainment complex known as Tokyo Dome City which includes dozens of restaurants, stores and an amusement park including the roller coaster known as Thunder Dolphin and the ferris wheel.

If you are looking for an exciting place to hang out in the early evening, Tokyo Dome and Tokyo Dome City is definitely worth visiting!
